Dental Care for Your Child or Teenager under 18

We are now seeing children and teenagers under 18 as private (i.e. not government-funded) patients.

We are phasing out our contract with the Ministry of Health under which we receive funding for treating teenagers enrolled with us. This contract does not enable us to offer a full range of treatment to teenagers. We can only offer this full range if we see them on a private basis, and this we are happy to do. It means that we can do all the work that is necessary to maintain good dental health for your teenager.

We are also hearing of younger children waiting up to 2 years to be seen by the School Dental Therapist. 

There is a strong link between oral health and overall health, and it is very important for your child/teenager to have annual check-ups with a dentist. Forming a good habit of regular check-ups with the dentist and learning how to look after their teeth themselves will set them up with good oral health for life.

Fees for children and teenagers under the age of 18 are as follows:

All of these fees include a thorough examination of your child/teenager’s teeth to identify any fillings etc that may need to be done, as well as advice on oral health care at home. As with our adult patients we prepare a treatment plan and fee estimate showing the work that needs to be done and the fee for that work.

For those of you whose teenagers are already enrolled with us nothing will change – we will continue to treat your teenager under the government-funded scheme until they turn 18.
